Partnership Grant

De Montfort University (DMU) and Crompton View School (Bilsthorpe) have secured a prestigious Royal Society Partnership grant to work with the children to look at how vegetables can make us healthy.

The event will take place at Crompton View School in September 2011

We will have show and tell talks on fruit and vegetables.

A soup making competition

Older children will learn how to measure vitamin concentration in the foods

The younger children will rank the vegetables based on how horrid they taste and will learn how green vegetables can be healthy

We are keen to involve producers and growers to supply produce, judge, give talk or even take the winning soup recipe and put it in production?

Royal Society Week

The team are putting the final preparations to the Royal Society Partnership Week between Compton View School and Dr Basten from De Montfort University

We will:

• Learn about fruits and vegetables
• Predict and taste
• Learn why some vegetables taste horrid to children, but are actually very good for us
• Learn about folic acid and measure this vitamin in foods using a technique called ELISA
